LONGVIEW — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets tallied one victory in three games at American Southwest Conference rival LeTourneau over the weekend.
The Lady Jackets notched a 7-4 win in the middle game of the series, as LeTourneau took the opener 6-3 and the finale 14-2.
In the win for Howard Payne (11-15, 7-11), which came in the second game of a Friday doubleheader, the Lady Jackets scored five runs in the third inning to seize control of the contest.
In the circle, Audrey Simpson pitched 5.1 innings, allowing one run on 10 hits with one strikeout to collect the victory. Hannah Stuart worked 1.2 innings of relief, giving up three runs on two hits and one walk.
Howard Payne finished with 10 hits — two apiece by Aurora Luera, Alexis Sullivan and Haley Slater, along with one each from Tonya Thompson, Kayla Hill, Madison Love and Kayla Anderson.
During HPU's five-run third inning, Anderson and Luera both singled ahead of a two-RBI base hit by Sullivan. Hill then singled home Sullivan in front on a two-run home run by Slater.
Howard Payne added a run in the fifth as Hill walked to start frame. Melinda Mendoza, running for Hill, came home on Love's two-out RBI single to center field.
The final Lady Jacket run crossed the plate in the sixth as Luera led off with a single and scored on an Emily Martinez RBI sac fly.
In the opening 6-3 loss, HPU yielded the first six runs before scoring once in the sixth inning and twice more in the seventh.
Tia Campos went the distance and surrendered six runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
At the plate, HPU generated eight hits — two by Sullivan and one apiece from Luera, Thompson, Martinez, Hill, Slater, and Ragen Noriega.
HPU's run in the sixth scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Love that plated Amy Perez, running for Hill who reached on a single.
In the seventh, Sullivan reached on a one-out double then Martinez belted a two-run home run.
Saturday's finale featured an 11-run second inning by LeTourneau (16-10, 13-7) as HPU pitchers Gabrielle Roque, Campos and Stuart gave up eight earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and a pair of walks.
HPU tallied six hits — one each by Thompson, Sullivan, Hill, Slater, Noriega and Mendoza.
Both Howard Payne runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning as Slater singled home Sullivan, who reached on a base hit, and Mendoza's RBI ground out drove in Hill, who also singled.
The Lady Jackets are back in action Friday and Saturday as they host Hardin-Simmons in a three-game ASC series.
