WEATHERFORD — At the midway point of the District 7-4A golf tournament, the Brownwood Lions are in first place and the Brownwood Lady Lions are one shot back of the lead on the girls side.
During Monday's opening round of the 36-hole district tournament, the Lions posted a 329 team score, while the Lady Lions carded a 393 composite score — one stroke off the pace set by Glen Rose (392).
Leading the way for the Lions were Jaryn Pruitt with a first-place round of 72, Caden Reagan with a third-place 75, Ben Kallman with an 87, Ian Harris with a 95 and Jay Monson with a 113.
The Lions own a 22-stroke advantage over second-place Stephenville (351).
For the Lady Lions, Mallory Garcia posted a team-best round of 82 trailed by Bryanna Galvan with a 98, Abbi Galvan with a 102, Abby Burks with a 111 and Payton Stewart with a 122.
The Lady Lions also own a 22-shot lead over third-place Stephenville (415) as the top two teams, and top two finishers not on a qualifying team, advance to the Region I-4A golf tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock April 24-25.
The second and final round of the 7-4A tournament will again be played at Canyon West Golf Course in Weatherford on Tuesday.
