GLEN ROSE — Chyanne Ellett responded to the worst outing of her senior season by tossing a perfect game, and the No. 3 Brownwood Lady Lions remained alone atop the District 7-4A softball standings with Friday's 2-0 road victory over the Glen Rose Lady Tigers.
Ellett — who surrendered seven runs in the final two innings of Tuesday's 7-6 loss at Mineral Wells — struck out 17 of the 21 Glen Rose batters she faced, and no ball off the bat of a Lady Tiger left the infield.
Ellett also eclipsed 1,100 career strikeouts during the game — now at 1,107 — and stands at 272 strikeouts and 23 walks for the year.
Offensively, the Lady Lions finished with six hits — a pair by Annie Gillispie, who drove in a run; and one each by Ellett, Ayanna Clemons, Yisel Mendoza and Lexie Castillo. Auzzlyn Benedict added the other Brownwood RBI, while Annie-Klein Allgood recorded the Lady Lions' lone walk.
Brownwood grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Gillispie led off with a single, Ashlynn Patteson reached on an error, Ellett sacrificed the runners over a base and Benedict's RBI ground out plated Gillispie.
The Lady Lions tacked on their insurance run in the second as Mendoza singled to begin the frame, Allgood walked and Castillo singled to fill the sacks with no outs. With one down, Gillispie's RBI sac fly to center field drove in Mendoza with the final run.
Brownwood (18-2-1, 4-1), which also collected its 14th shutout, will host Godley (13-7, 2-2) on Tuesday night. The Lady Lions won the first meeting, 4-0, on March 22.
