The Brownwood High tennis team has secured at least six berths in the area round, and a seventh could be coming Monday when the District 7-4A tennis tournament finally reaches its conclusion.
The first- and second-place finishers at district move on to the Region I-4A tournament at the McLeod Tennis Complex in Lubbock April 18-19.
Securing district titles for Brownwood on its home court Friday and Saturday were Gabe Hinojosa and Piper Barberie in mixed doubles, Tanner Scull and James Bautista in boys doubles, Aaliyah Uvalle and Kaylee Renfroe in girls doubles, and Mckinzie Adkins in girls singles.
Qualifying as runners-up were Mo Goff in boys singles, along with the girls doubles team of Samantha Ethridge and Lillian Jonescue.
The boys doubles team of Oscar Ledezma and Cameron Smith will learn its fate Monday. The duo, who lost to Scull and Bautista in the final, must wait on the outcome of the third-place match between Dodson/Donham of Stephenville and Osbourne/Simmons of Glen Rose, due to a conflict with schedules. If the Osborn/Simmons team wins, Ledezma and Smith will lock up second place and a regional berth, having already defeated the duo on the way to the final. If Dodson/Donham win, however, a playback match will then decide second place as they have yet to face Ledezma and Smith.
Other Brownwood district results included third-place finishes for Hanna Netherland in girls singles, and Matthew Bundick and Kaytlin Welch in mixed doubles.
