BANGS – The Early Longhorns bounced back from just their second District 6-3A defeat and stayed one game back of league leader Cisco with a 5-1 road victory over the Bangs Dragons Tuesday night.

The win marked a league sweep for Early (10-6, 7-2), which also defeated Bangs (7-10, 4-5) by an 11-4 score on March 15 on the Longhorns’ home turf. The Dragons dropped into a fourth-place tie in the district standings with Dublin (7-8, 4-5) with the defeat.

The Longhorns scored all five of their runs over the first two innings and finished with seven hits — two each by Boston Hudson and Jonathan Morales, who drove in two; along with one apiece from Rylie Hill, Aiden Frerichs and Jesson Tarrant, who also added an RBI.

On the mound, Frerichs and Kyle Ivy teamed up to surrender one earned run on four hits with 12 strikeouts and four walks.

The Dragons, who tallied their only run in the bottom of the fifth, received three hits and an RBI from leadoff batter Ethan Sanchez, while Brayton Wedeman also singled.

Austin Hall and Eli Carbajal gave up just one earned run, as the Bangs defense committed four errors, on seven hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.

Early took a 1-0 lead in the first as Tarrant’s two-out RBI single brought home Hudson, who led off the game with a base hit.

The Longhorns tacked on four runs in the second as Bolton, running for Frerichs who reached on an error, scored on a passed ball, and Tyler, who walked, came home on an error. Later in the frame, a two-RBI double from Morales scored Hudson, who also doubled, and Hill, who walked.

Early will host Dublin at 7 p.m. Friday while Bangs welcomes Hamilton at the same time. ­

 

Lady Horns 3, Lady Dragons 1

 

BANGS — The Early Lady Horns completed a District 6-3A softball sweep of the Bangs Lady Dragons with a 3-1 victory Tuesday afternoon.

Early moved to 22-5 overall and 9-2 league play, one game back of district co-leaders Eastland (23-3, 10-1) and Comanche (16-6, 10-1). Despite the loss, Bangs (9-15, 4-7) stayed two games back of Coleman (12-11, 6-5) for the fourth and final playoff seed.
