MARBLE FALLS – The Brownwood High tennis team chalked up its seventh victory in a row, cruising past Class 5A Marble Falls in a 15-4 blowout Saturday morning.
The Lions and Lady Lions, now 9-1 on the season, were also scheduled to play Liberty Hill Saturday afternoon, but that match was rained out.
Against Marble Falls, the Lady Lions led the charge with victories in all nine matches.
Collecting girls singles wins were No. 1 McKinzie Adkins (8-5 over Vasquez), No. 2 Kaylee Renfroe (8-2 over Martin), No. 3 Victoria Ramos (8-2 over Long), No. 4 Lillian Jonescue (8-2 over Nail), No. 5 Cameron Hall (8-1 over Cook) and No. 6 Aaliyah Uvalle (8-2 over Farmer).
Picking up doubles wins were the No. 1 team of Adkins and Hall (6-1, 6-1 over Martin and Long), the No. 2 duo of Renfroe and Ramos (6-0, 6-0 over Nail and Cook) and the No. 3 tandem of Uvalle and Jonescue (6-0, 6-2 over Farmer and Smith).
The Lions tacked on six victories, including four in singles action.
Boys winners were No. 1 Mo Goff (8-7 [10-9] over Knight), No. 2 James Bautista (8-6 over Hemond), No. 5 Peyton Jeffcoats (9-7 over Shumacher) and No. 6 Alex Smith (8-4 over Chase).
Tallying doubles wins for the Lions were the No. 2 team of Goff and Matthew Bundick (6-2, 6-3 over Dodgen and Hemond) and the No. 3 duo of Jeffcoats and Colton Varner (6-1, 6-2 over Schumacher and Speary).
Brownwood is slated to be back in action at 4 p.m. Thursday at Lampasas in the final match before defense of its District 7-4A tennis championship begins at home against Brock Sept. 5.
