The Brownwood Freshman Lions opened their football campaign with a 35-26 home victory over Brock Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Brock scored first, but the Lions answered with two touchdowns to gain the lead by the end of the first period. Chance Jones scored on a 1-yard run, and Jones later connected with Jordan Leach on an 11-yard scoring toss. Jakson Yoder converted both extra points to make the score 14-6.
The Lions led 14-12 at halftime, then tacked on two more scores in the third period. Jones tossed a 10-yard touchdown to Jason Jackson, Dryden Anderson scored on a 9-yard carry and Yoder added two more extra points for a 28-12 edge.
Leading 28-18 in the fourth, Konlyn Anderson's 27-yard scoring scamper, coupled with a Yoder extra point, boosted the lead to 35-18. Brock added a late touchdown and two-point conversation in the final minute for the nine-point margin.
Defensive standouts for the Lions included Noah Barron (6 tackles, 1TFL), Anderson (6 tackles, 1 Sack), Taylor Bessent (4 tackles), and Zaiden Lopez (1 tackle, 2 TFL).
Brock 34, JV Lions 14
The Brownwood JV Lions dropped their season-opening football game to the Brock Eagles, 34-14, Thursday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Brownwood trailed just 16-14 at halftime, but Brock controlled the second half.
Quarterback Jackson Huff and running back Uriah King were offensive standouts as the Lions rushed for more than 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Leading the charge defensively was linebacker Kaden Bessent.
