The Howard Payne Lady Jackets picked up a pair of victories, while the Yellow Jackets dropped their first two matches during the opening weekend of soccer season.

The Lady Jackets notched a 1-0 victory at the University of Dallas in Saturday's opener.

Lesly Garcia tallied the only goal of the match 1:46 into the second half.

Howard Payne attempted 11 shots with just three on goal — by Garcia, Marisah Mata and Jada Austin — compared to 17 by Dallas with 11 on frame.

In goal, Delaney Castor recorded six saves in one half while Rayden Hicks notched five in the other.

On Sunday versus Wisconsin-Superior, Howard Payne held a 1-0 advantage on a Jayde Miyamoto first-half goal. UW-Superior then forfeited at the half giving the Lady Jackets the victory.

For the Yellow Jackets, they dropped a 5-1 decision at the University of Dallas Friday, followed by a 4-0 setback against Williamette Saturday at Trinity University in San Antonio.

In the opening defeat, Khaled Ameen scored HPU's lone goal 11:21 into the second half after Dallas notched all five of its goals in the first half.

HPU attempted 14 shots with seven on goal — three by Joshua Rodriguez, two by Alexander Paz and one each by Angel Rivas and Ameen — compared to 19 shots with 11 on target by Dallas.

Andrew Hackney went the distance in goal for HPU, tallying six saves.

In the loss to Williamette, the Yellow Jackets allowed one first-half goal and three more over the final 45 minutes.

HPU was limited to just three shot attempts — by Rivas, Paz and Brandon Osbourne – while Williamette took 34 shots with 11 on goal.

Matt Prall played all 90 minutes in goal for Howard Payne and collected six saves.

The Lady Jackets and Yellow Jackets open their home schedule with a Friday doubleheader against Texas Lutheran that begins at 2 p.m., then both teams welcome Schreiner for another twin bill at 2 p.m. Saturday.
