The Howard Payne Lady Jackets picked up one win in four tries this past weekend as they began the season with four matches at Texas Lutheran University Bulldog Challenge in Seguin.

The Lady Jackets picked up a 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 victory over St. Joseph's College in the weekend finale.

Mya Ross led HPU with 12 kills trailed by seven from Shaylyn Wise, six each from Ciara Chappel and Mitsue Rodriguez, three from Canyon Hughes, two from Teresa Hopkins and one from Kylee Shirley.

Kaitlyn Elsten dished out 14 assists while Logan Boyd distributed 11.

Hughes led the way with three aces, Boyd and Shirley added two apiece and Ross served one.

Defensively, Shirley tallied five digs followed by Elsten and Hopkins with four each, Ross, Wise, and Rodriguez with three apiece, Christian Wilson and Daisy Flores both with a pair and Boyd and Hannah Rule with one each.

At the net, Hughes tallied two blocks, Chappel finished with 1.5, Hopkins, Ross and Wise were credited with one apiece and Rodriguez had half a block.

Howard Payne opened the weekend with a 25-8, 25-12, 25-11 loss to Texas Lutheran.

The Lady Jackets followed with a 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-11 setback against Jarvis Christian.

Wise led HPU with 16 kills, Elsten tallied 15 assists, Ross and Elsten both served a pair of aces, Boyd logged eight digs and Ross and Hopkins tallied one block apiece.

The Lady Jackets were also dealt a 25-21, 25-15, 25-15 defeat by Schreiner.

Ross and Rodriguez both finished with five kills, Boyd contributed nine assists, Ross and Hughes served two aces apiece, Ross notched nine digs and Chappel recorded 1.5 blocks.

Howard Payne (1-3) is next slated to visit Austin College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
