The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions' road to a District 7-4A championship repeat will require a detour following Thursday's 10-9 home loss to Brock in the league opener for both teams.

Brownwood (10-2, 0-1), which saw its eight-match win streak snapped, swept all three girls doubles matches, won three of six in girls singles, picked up victories in two of three boys doubles matches, but was limited to one boys singles triumph.

“We had opportunities and didn't capitalize,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Crystal Blazek. “Brock is a tough team and we knew it was going to be close. Now we need to take care of business the rest of district.”

Notching doubles wins for the Lady Lions were the No. 1 team of Mckinzie Adkins and Cameron Hall (10-4, 4-6, 10-3 over Evan Roberts and Taylor Shubick), the No. 2 duo of Victoria Ramos and Kaylee Renfroe (7-6, 6-3 over Maddison Mitchell and Alysha Lee) and the No. 3 tandem of Aaliyah Uvalle and Lillian Jonescue (6-4, 6-4 over Marta Fernandez and Athena Talley).

Collecting singles wins for the Lady Lions were No. 1 Adkins (6-1, 6-4 over Roberts), No. 2 Renfroe (6-4, 6-2 over Mitchell) and No. 6 Uvalle (3-6, 6-4, 13-11 over Averie Watkins).

For the Lions, doubles victories belonged to No. 1 Mo Goff and Matthew Bundick (6-0, 6-2 over Colin O'Grady and Landon Moon) and No. 3 Colton Varner and Peyton Jeffcoats (5-7, 6-3, 10-6 over Caleb Bowman and Cooper Luce).

Earning the singles win for the Lions was No. 2 Bundick (6-2, 6-2 over O'Grady).

Brownwood will attempt to rebound at 4 p.m. Monday when it travels to Glen Rose.
