AUSTIN — The Howard Payne Lady Jackets suffered their second American Southwest Conference volleyball loss in as many outings Tuesday night, dropping a straight-set decision to West Division rival Concordia, 25-14, 25-12, 25-13.

The Lady Jackets received four kills from Teresa Hopkins trailed by three from Mya Ross, two each from Ciara Chappell, Canyon Hughes and Shaylyn Wise, and one apiece by Kylee Shirley and Amaya Marshall.

Logan Boyd dished out five assists, Kennedy Sam added four, Kaitlyn Elsten tallied three and Hughes finished with one.

Sam and Boyd served HPU's two aces.

Defensively, the Lady Jackets were led by Shirley's 12 digs followed by six from Sam, five from Ross, four from Mitsue Rodriguez, three from Elizabeth Benn, two each from Marshall, Hughes and Boyd and one apiece by Elsten and Hopkins.

Chappell, Hughes, Hopkins and Ross finished with two blocks each while Marshall added one.

Concordia (9-3, 1-0) received 15 kills and four aces from Tristyn Massey, 17 assists from Georgia Quiroz, 12 digs from Rylee Davis, and a pair of blocks from Cassie Jackson.

The Lady Jackets were coming off their second victory of the season, a five-set non-conference triumph over ASC East rival Louisiana College Sunday in Conway, Arkansas during the final day of the Hendrix College Invitational.

Howard Payne snapped a five-match skid with the 25-23, 17-25, 16-25, 25-17, 15-13 victory.

Ross led the way with 17 kills followed by eight from Wise, seven from Hopkins, five from Marshall, four from Hughes, three from Rodriguez, two from Chappell and one from Shirley.

Elsten distributed 22 assists followed by Boyd with 19, Shirley with three and Hopkins with two.

Shirley also served three aces while Ross chipped in a pair.

Defensively, Shirley's 27 digs paced Howard Payne trailed by 12 from Ross, nine from Elsten, eight from Boyd, seven from Benn, four from Rodriguez, three from Hughes and one apiece from Wise, Marshall and Daisy Flores.

Chappell tallied 3.5 blocks, Marshall added 2.5, Hughes finished with 1.5, and Ross, Hopkins and Wise were credited with one each.

The Lady Jackets (2-8, 0-1) are back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday at ASC West rival Sul Ross.
