The McMurry Lady War Hawks prevented the Howard Payne Lady Jackets from collecting their first American Southwest Conference volleyball victory of the season Tuesday night at the Brownwood Coliseum.

McMurry left Brownwood with a 25-19, 25-10, 25-17 straight-set victory to improve to 11-6 overall and 2-4 in ASC action. Howard Payne, meanwhile, slipped to 2-14 for the season and 0-6 against conference foes.

The Lady Jackets were paced offensively by Mitsue Rodriguez's seven kills followed by Mya Ross with six, Shaylyn Wise with four, Canyon Hughes with three, Amaya Marshall with a pair and Christian Wilson with one.

Logan Boyd distributed 12 assists while Kaitlyn Elsten chipped in 10.

Rodriguez also served two aces while Ross, Hughes and Daisy Flores added one each.

Defensively, Kylee Shirley's 13 digs led HPU trailed by five each from Wilson and Rodriguez, two apiece from Boyd and Marshall and one by Wise.

Hughes and Boyd tallied two blocks apiece while Marshall and Ross each finished with one.

McMurry was sparked by 10 kills from Justice McGowan, 18 assists and seven digs by Lauryn Davis, two blocks by Kianni Mitchell and a pair of aces from Brynn Warnack, Jordyn Burnell and Adile Leal.

The Lady Jackets are back in action at 6 p.m. Wednesday as they host Schreiner in non-conference action. The next ASC tilt for Howard Payne will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hardin-Simmons.
