STEPHENVILLE – In a battle for the top spot in the District 7-4A volleyball standings, the Brownwood Lady Lions were dealt a 25-12, 25-13, 25-21 defeat by No. 25 Stephenville Friday.
The loss snapped a five-match win streak for the Lady Lions (16-12, 3-1), who slipped into second place in the 7-4A standings at the halfway point of their district schedule.
Aleyia Cotton led Brownwood with seven kills trailed by four each from Olivia Fowler and Jaylen Savage, three apiece from Kylie Morris and Katelyn Windham, and one each by Ashlyn Storm and Tessa Goodwin.
Goodwin also distributed 15 assists followed Kylie Wooten with seven and Caitlyn Moody with one.
Moody and Goodwin both served two aces while Fowler added one.
On the defensive end, Moody logged 22 digs trailed by Fowler with 11, Goodwin with eight, Cotton with six, and Morris, Wooten, Savage, Windham and Storm with one apiece.
At the net, Savage finished with three blocks, Fowler added two and Cotton, Windham and Storm each contributed one.
The Lady Lions begin the second half of district action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Glen Rose, which they defeated in the league opener in Brownwood on Sept. 27.
