SAN ANGELO — The Early Lady Horns opened the 2019-20 basketball season with a 68-36 road triumph over San Angelo TLCA Tuesday night.

Early led 15-5 after one quarter, 30-16 at halftime and 50-29 through three quarters.

Vance-Cady Gordon led the way with 12 points and four assists along with Dana Lykes' 10 points and 15 rebounds; Reagan Kirby's 10 points and 11 boards; Carrigan Norris' 10 points and seven rebounds; Alexa Portillo's nine points, six boards and three assists; Savannah Holt's six points and seven rebounds; Taylor Summers' four points, three assists and seven steals; Grace LaRue's five points; and Caroline Welker's two points.

The Lady Horns are back in action at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sidney.


Bangs 44, Ballinger 39


BALLINGER — The Bangs Lady Dragons outlasted the Ballinger Lady Cats in overtime, 44-39, to open the 2019-20 basketball campaign with a win Tuesday night.

Bangs led 9-6 after one quarter, but trailed 13-9 at halftime and 24-21 through three frames. The Lady Dragons rallied to grab a 39-36 in the closing seconds, where Ballinger banked into a three-pointer to force overtime. In the extra session, Bangs did not yield a point.

Trenedi Deal led Bangs with 18 points and Honey Keely contributed 13.

The Lady Dragons are scheduled to host Abilene Christian at 6:15 p.m. Friday.


Anson 69, May 29

MAY — The May Lady Tigers opened the season with a 69-29 loss to Class 3A Anson Tuesday night.

Early foul trouble plagued May, which fell in a hole early too deep from which to escape.

Leading scorers for the Lady Tigers were Roberta Robinette with eight points, Lexi Fox and Reese Chambers with six apiece, Kendra Ford with four, and Melanie Murphree, Brianna Steele, and Hannah McKenzie with two points each.

Next up for May is the Baird Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
