BROCK — The Brownwood Lady Lions began play in three-day Brock basketball tournament with a pair of losses Thursday.
First, Brownwood began the day with a 41-35 setback at the hands of host Brock. Later, the Lady Lions were upended by Class 5A Aledo, 41-28.
Against Brock, the Lady Lions trailed 8-6 after one quarter, 18-13 at halftime and 29-22 heading into the fourth period.
Matyha Thompson led Brownwood with 14 points trailed by Lindsey Larose with eight, Catrina Fullerlove-Brooks with seven, and Carol Ann Hetzel and Hadley Monroe with three points apiece.
Brownwood shot 38 percent (15 of 39) from the floor and made all three of its free throws. The Lady Lions also recorded 15 rebounds and 11 steals with nine turnovers.
Versus Aledo, the Lady Lions were down 8-4 after one quarter, 22-12 at the half and 34-19 through three periods.
Thompson again paced Brownwood with nine points trailed by six from Jaylen Savage, five from Alexa Arreola, four from Lindsey Larose and one point each from Natalie Edmonds and Cartina Fullerlove-Brooks.
Brownwood drained 33 percent (10 of 30) of its field goal attempts and 63 percent (7 of 11) of its free throws, with 15 rebounds, seven steals and 14 turnovers.
The Lady Lions return to tournament action at 10:20 a.m. Friday against Bangs.
