LORENA — Leading through three quarters, the Class 4A No. 22 Brownwood Lady Lions were unable to hang on in the final period as Class 6A Temple rallied for a 55-47 victory in Lorena tournament action Thursday.
Brownwood trailed 20-15 after one quarter but grabbed a 30-29 halftime advantage over Temple (8-4). The Lady Lions carried a 44-42 lead into the fourth period where they were outscored 13-3 over the final eight minutes.
Matyha Thompson finished with 20 points for the Lady Lions trailed by nine from McKenzie Welker, seven from Lindsey Larose, six from from Catrina Fullerlove-Brooks, three from Carol Ann Hetzel and two points from Hadley Monroe.
Brownwood shot 39 percent (16 of 41) from the floor, 36 percent (4 of 11) from three-point land, and 68 percent (11 of 16) at the free throw line. Brownwood also recorded 18 rebounds and six steals and committed 13 turnovers.
The Lady Lions (5-7) will be back in tournament action at 12:30 p.m. Friday against Robinson.
