ABILENE — The Brownwood Lady Lions jumped out to a 13-point halftime lead over Class 5A Abilene Wylie Friday afternoon, but scored just six points in the second half — and none in the third period — as the Lady Bulldogs rallied for a 46-34 victory.
Brownwood (8-9) led 16-7 after one quarter and 28-15 at the break. Wylie (10-7) then closed the gap to 28-27 by the end of third period and outscored the Lady Lions 19-6 over the final eight minutes.
The Lady Lions shot 33 percent (12 of 36) from the floor — but made just one field goal after halftime. The Lady Lions sank 4 of 14 three-pointers (28 percent), and knocked down 50 percent (6 of 12) of their free throws. Brownwood also committed 22 turnovers, grabbed just seven rebounds and collected nine steals.
Matyha Thompson finished with a dozen points for Brownwood trailed by Catrina Fullerlove-Brooks with seven, Natalie Edmonds with six, McKenzie Welker with four, Alexa Arreola with three and Lindsey Larose with two points.
Brownwood is back in action next weekend as the Lady Lions host the TexasBank Holiday Classic at the Brownwood Coliseum and Brownwood High School.
