DE LEON — The Brownwood Lions regrouped after a four-point home loss to Graham on New Year's Eve and collected a 61-48 road victory over the De Leon Bearcats Friday night.

“We are still a little sloppy and gave up a lot of easy points later in the fourth quarter,” said Lions head coach Nadir Dalleh, whose team dropped a 52-48 decision to Graham this past Tuesday. “We have to get healthy and execute better.”

Again playing without starting point guard Isyah Campos, who was in a walking boot Friday afternoon, the Lions (17-4) led Class 2A De Leon (10-11) by a 15-12 count after one quarter, 32-15 at halftime, and 46-29 through three frames.

John Wilhelm led the Brownwood offense with 20 points trailed by Zach Strong with 14, A.J. McCarty with 13, Darrell Williams with six and Bryson Monroe and Brandon Hamrick with four points apiece.

Isaiah Sparger scored a game-high 22 points for De Leon, with 20 coming in the second half.

Brownwood will visit Hillsboro at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday then travel for Lorena at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
