After rallying from 20 points down to force overtime Thursday night against Belhaven, the Howard Payne Yellow Jackets were unable to mount a comeback in Saturday's 87-65 loss to the Louisiana College Wildcats in American Southwest Conference basketball action at the Brownwood Coliseum.

The loss marked the 10th in a row for the Yellow Jackets (1-11, 0-3), who are still in search of their first ASC victory. Louisiana College (7-4, 1-1) was able to notch their initial conference win after coming up short at Sul Ross Thursday.

Howard Payne also fell to Louisiana College, 79-61, on Dec. 9 in a non-conference road outing.

In Saturday's rematch, the Yellow Jackets trailed 48-34 at halftime and were outscored 39-31 in the second half.

Howard Payne converted 35 percent (24 of 69) of its field goal attempts, including 9 of 23 three-pointers, while also hitting 73 percent (8 of 11) of its free throws.

Luke Cox scored a team-high 20 points for the Yellow Jackets, sinking six three-pointers, trailed by Jace Miguez with 14 points, Jaylan Ballou with seven, Tyrell Thompson with six, Jayden Modrall with five, Jacob Smith and Colton Otts with four apiece, Mason Green and Kyle Kildare with two apiece and Talen Davis with one point.

Louisiana College connected on 50 percent (30 of 60) of its shots, including 12 of 24 treys, and made 75 percent (15 of 20) of its free throw attempts. The Wildcats owned a 42-37 edge in rebounds but forced just nine Howard Payne turnovers.

Denzel Austin scored 21 points to pace the Wildcats followed by 14 from K.D. Wallace, 10 from Bailey Hardy, and nine apiece from Trey Ames and Caleb Howe.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at McMurry (5-7, 2-1), which suffered a 92-77 home loss to East Texas Baptist Saturday afternoon.
