LIBERTY HILL — The Brownwood Lady Lions completed their final three games at the Liberty Hill soccer tournament with a win, loss and tie.
Friday morning, the Lady Lions collected their initial victory of the season, 3-2 over Copperas Cove. Brownwood received two goals from Aleyia Cotton and one from Watts Jones.
Friday afternoon, the Lady Lions played Paris North Lamar to a 2-2 tie. Cotton and Kennedi Johnson registered the Brownwood goals.
Saturday morning, the Lady Lions closed the tournament with a 2-1 loss to Salado, as Brownwood got on the board due to a own goal by Salado.
“Overall the tournament was a good experience,” said Lady Lions head coach Andrew Stevenson. “We had a rough start against Midlothian Heritage but I thought we bounced back well and played two great games against Copperas Cove and North Lamar. We didn't get the result we wanted today but the tournament gave us plenty to work on and that's what the next week of practice will be.”
The Lady Lions (1-2-1) will return to action at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Gatesville.

GEORGETOWN — The Brownwood Lions completed their stay at the Governor's Cup in Georgetown without a victory, dropping their final two matches to Hays Johnson, 7-0, Friday, and Sherman, 6-0, Saturday.
The Lions kicked off the regular season Thursday with a 7-0 loss at the hands of Austin Crockett.
“It was the same story of not having good ball control or passes which led to a loss of possession,” Lions head coach Scott Swanzy said after Friday's match. “I did see improvement and again the effort was there. I'm optimistic we will continue to play hard and have better outcomes going forward.”
The Lions (0-3) welcome Lorena at 5 p.m. Tuesday in their home opener.
