HILLSBORO — A.J. McCarty became the second Lion to surpass 1,000 career points this season, as Brownwood handed the Hillsboro Eagles just their second defeat, 75-72, here Tuesday night.

“A.J. scored his 1,000th point and he was huge in this win,” said Lions head coach Nadir Dalleh. “This was a huge win with Zach Strong in foul trouble all game. Brandon Hamrick and Darrell Williams stepped in and did a great job and John Wilhelm was hot and stretched their defense. Hillsboro's a very good team and Coach (Courtney) Hewitt does a great job with team. This was a great team win.”

The Lions (18-4) trailed Hillsboro (15-2) by a 25-19 count after one quarter, grabbed a 37-36 lead at halftime, and took a 58-51 advantage into the fourth period.

Needing 17 points to reach 1,000, McCarty finished with 20 while Wilhelm poured in a team-high 32 points. Beau Bronniman contributed 10 points trailed by five from Strong, four each from Hamrick and Cooper Swanzy and two points from Williams.
