HAMILTON — The Bangs Lady Dragons remained atop the District 6-3A girls basketball standings Friday night, surviving a 41-40 nail-biter at Hamilton.
Bangs (11-13, 5-0) surrendered the first 11 points of the game to Hamilton (12-11, 2-3) but cut the deficit to 11-6 at the end of the first period. At halftime, the Lady Dragons were in a 24-17 hole, then closed the gap to 31-30 by the end of the third period.
With 2:45 left in the fourth quarter, Trenedi Deal converted the lone three-pointer for Bangs to give the Lady Dragons a four-point edge. Bangs later sank two free throws with seven seconds to go to push the lead back at four points, as Hamilton banked in a three-pointer with two seconds remaining.
The Lady Dragons will host Cisco Tuesday night in a battle of district unbeatens.
Lady Horns 81, Dublin 75 (OT)
EARLY — The Early Lady Horns chalked up their first District 6-3A victory Friday night, snapping a four-game league skid with an 81-75 overtime victory over the Dublin Lady Lions.
Early (12-14, 1-4) jumped out to a 20-12 lead over Dublin (0-14, 0-5) after one quarter and was in front 39-21 at halftime. Dublin answered with a 27-point third quarter to close the gap to 53-48, then outscored the Lady Horns 19-14 in the fourth period to knot the score at 67 at the end of regulation.
Tatum Reigle led the Lady Horns with 26 points followed by 19 points and seven assists from Taylor Summers, 13 points and 11 rebounds from Carrigan Norris, 11 points and six boards from Alexa Portillo, and four points each from Dana Lykes, Madison Torrez and Reagan Kirby.
The Lady Horns will visit Coleman at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Longhorns 82, Dublin 79 (OT)
EARLY — The Early Longhorns notched their second consecutive District 6-3A boys basketball victory, rallying in the fourth quarter to force overtime before knocking off the Dublin Lions, 82-79, Friday night.
Early (10-9, 2-1) received 34 points from Ethan Mitchell, 16 from Vic Cooper, 15 from Nathan Mitchell, seven from Brent Grooms, five from Timmy Smithson, two from Kiah Laborn and one point apiece from Bryce Denson, Tyson Tyler and Drew Bhatka.
The loss was the first in district action for Dublin (16-6, 2-1).
The Longhorns venture to Coleman at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Hamilton 68, Dragons 34
HAMILTON — The Bangs Dragons were denied their first District 6-3A victory, and first win of the season, in Friday's 68-34 loss at Hamilton Friday.
Bangs fell to 0-12 overall and 0-3 in district while Hamilton is now 4-10 and 1-2 in league play.
The Dragons will host Cisco Tuesday night.
