Brownwood Open tennis tournament this weekend

The Brownwood Open tennis tournament will be held Saturday, July 7 and Sunday, July 8 at the Brownwood High School tennis courts. Play will start at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Divisions include 12-and-under, 14-and-under, 16-and-under and 18-and-under boys and girls singles and doubles. There will also be menís and womenís open singles and doubles. The fee to enter is $8 for one event or $15 for two.

First Trail Hog Open tournament this weekend

The first Trail Hog Open Golf Tournament, hosted at the Brownwood Country Club, will take place July 7 and 8. On Saturday morning, 40 ďAĒ players will chose their two playing partners, making up the teams who will compete in two-ball low gross scoring format.

Shotgun starts will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. Team drawing will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Entry fee is $100 per person for the team event, and $20 per person for the individual event. Plans call for making this an annual event.

Brownwood Lions two-week tennis camp July 9-20

The two-week Brownwood Lions tennis camp is scheduled for Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 20 at the Brownwood High School tennis courts. The cost is $25 per camper for two weeks of one-hour sessions instructed by Brownwood tennis coaches Dave Cunha and Kara Lott.

There will be three daily sessions ó 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for fifth through eighth graders; 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for seventh through ninth graders; and 11 a.m. to noon for ninth through 12th graders.

Lady Lions basketball camp scheduled for July 16-19

Registration is now under way for the Brownwood Lady Lions Basketball Camp to be held July 16-19 at the main gym at Brownwood High School. The purpose of the camp is to teach young player fundamental skills and to improve their individual and team ability. Contests and league games will held daily.

Coaches at Brownwood High and Brownwood Middle Schools invite young people who will be in the second through ninth grades to enroll. Cost is $45, and information and forms are available at the high school athletic office.

Two sessions will be held, from incoming second through fifth graders from 8 to 11 a.m., and for incoming sixth through ninth graders from noon until 4 p.m.

Lady Jackets basketball camp set for July 30-Aug. 2

The Howard Payne University womenís basketball team will be hosting a basketball fundamentals camp for girls entering third through ninth grade.

The camp will run from Monday, July 30 through Thursday, Aug. 2 and will be broken into two sessions. Seventh through ninth graders should attend the 9 a.m. to noon session, while the 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. session is for third through sixth graders.

Texas Youth Football League early registration continues

Early registration for the upcoming fall season of the Texas Youth Football League is now under way. Registration forms for the third and fourth grade and fifth and sixth grade leagues are available at Weakley-Watson Sporting Goods.

The fee to register in July is $105 and $120 in August. The season will begin in mid-August and conclude in late October.

Teams from Brownwood, Early, Bangs, Brady, Coleman, Comanche, San Saba and Goldthwaite will comprise the league, with all games being played on Saturdays. The majority of the games will take place in Brownwood.
