Bulletin Staff Report
The Howard Payne University athletic department has announced that it will partner with KYOX-FM for the local radio broadcasts of Howard Payne football and basketball contests during the 2008-09 school year.
“We are excited to have KYOX as our new flagship station for Howard Payne University athletics,” said HPU director of athletics Mike Jones. “This new partnership will provide our local fans with a quality source for listening to HPU sports.”
KYOX, also known as “The OX” to radio listeners, will broadcast all Howard Payne football games as well as all home and ASC West division games during the men’s and women’s basketball seasons. Any postseason games in football and basketball will be carried by KYOX as well.
“We here at Cherry Creek Radio in Texas, and specifically KYOX-FM, The OX, are thrilled to be taking on this endeavor,” said “Boots” Robert Elliott, general manger Cherry Creek Radio-Texas. “Howard Payne University deserves to have a strong signal and an experienced staff to produce the broadcasts and we’re proud to provide it. Brownwood loves a winner and we hope the community will want to be a part of the winning Howard Payne program through our broadcasts.”
Broadcasting at 94.3, KYOX is a 24 hour, 40,000 watt FM station that covers a 10-county area. KYOX combines both the newer and older generations of country sounds and artists. “The OX” is one of four stations owned by Cherry Creek Radio-Texas. Cherry Creek Radio-Texas is no stranger to athletic broadcasts as they are the flagship for Tarleton Sate University, Stephenville High School and Comanche High School sporting events.
“The OX” broadcasts Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M football games as well.
