    BANGS — The Bangs Lady Dragons continued their recent surge as they dished out the Early Lady Horns’ ninth loss in the past 10 games, 45-36, in Tuesday’s District 8-2A opener for both squads.

    The Lady Dragons (17-4, 1-0) have won eight of their last night games, while the Lady Horns (6-9, 0-1) have stumbled after opening the season with five consecutive victories and peaking at No. 10 in the Class 2A poll.

    Bangs opened a 13-11 advantage after one quarter Tuesday, then built a 25-15 halftime lead by holding Early to four second-quarter points. The Lady Dragons maintained a 33-25 advantage through three quarters, and pushed the final margin to nine points.

    Hillary Evans and Chelsy Lipsey finished with 11 points each for Bangs, followed by six apiece from Nette Evers and Keirstin Williams. Danielle Denbow and Abby Hall added four points each, while Drea Evers racked up three points.

    Bailey Harris scored nine points to lead Early, followed by eight points from Tylene Middleton, seven from Tresta Donahoo, six from Julia Loudermilk, four from Katie Isom and two points from Brianna Childs.

    Bangs will visit ninth-ranked and undefeated San Saba (14-0) Friday, while Early plays host to Brady.

Santa Anna 58, Sidney 35

    SANTA ANNA — Santa Anna improved to 15-3 and 4-0 in District 16-A Division II action with Tuesday’s 58-35 win over Sidney.

    Sarah Herrod led Santa Anna with 26 points, followed by eight points each from Kaitlyn Krause and Sierra Guerrero.


Freshman Lions 50, Lake View 49

    The Brownwood Freshman Lions edged San Angelo Lake View, 50-49, Tuesday.

    Jeffrey Newton scored 15 points for the Lions, followed by Cameron Deal with 14 and Bryce Vickers and Bryant McDaniel with six points each.
