The Brownwood Flames opened TTAS District 2 Coach Pitch tournament action with a dominating performance both offensively and defensively.
The offense tallied at least five runs in each of its three trips to the plate, while the defense did not allow a base runner in an 18-0 first-round victory over the Ballinger Wildcats Monday at the Camp Bowie Sports Complex.
The Flames also added a 12-1 victory over the Bronte Longhorns late Monday night and will next play the Brownwood Terminators at 6 p.m. tonight.
In other Coach Pitch action Monday, the Brownwood Terminators rolled past the Comanche Lady Horns, 13-4, the Dublin Crush doubled the Comanche Diamond Daiseys, 16-8, and the De Leon Stars edged the Ranger Cheetah Girls, 8-6.
In the first elimination game, Comanche’s Diamond Daiseys booted Ballinger, 14-3.
The Flames’ early victory featured a seven-run bottom of the first inning.
Tristan Escamilla led off with a home run, one of three in the first inning for the Flames. Following an Ashley Jones double, Zoey Matthews chalked up a two-run home run. Emily Perez then followed with a home run for a quick 4-0 lead.
Madison Chesser, Veanna Sanchez and Kristen Torres also recorded base hits and scored runs in the first inning.
The Flames increased their lead to 12-0 in the second inning.
Matthews tallied an RBI triple, Perez added an RBI double and Chesser and Sadie Smith picked up RBI base hits. Jones also scored a run in the inning.
Brownwood closed its offensive onslaught with a six-run third inning.
Jones, Matthews and Perez collected RBI base hits ahead of Smith’s two-run home run. Torres’ RBI double brought home Chesser, who had singled, with the final Flames’ run.
