BANGS - The Bangs Dragons piled up nine runs in the top of the second inning, then added eight more in the third en route to an 18-1 triumph over the Bangs Colts in TTAB District 3 Freshman Tight Base tournament action here Tuesday.

The Dragons - who face Winters at 6 p.m. Thursday for the right to advance to Friday’s championship game - finished with eight hits and took advantage of four errors and 12 walks.

J.T. Newton led the Dragons offense with a 3-for-4 effort that included five RBIs and two runs scored, while Layne Greenhaw finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs. Brandon Massey matched Newton with five RBIs despite going just 1-for-2. Billy Jones also added a hit, an RBI and three runs, while Zach Fuqua chipped in a base hit and scored twice.

The Colts - who face Miles at 8 tonight in an elimination game - tallied just one hit off Jones, who struck out 12 and walked seven while pitching all four innings of the run-rule contest. Jones also left eight runners stranded on base.

Chane Burton chalked up the Colts’ lone hit with an infield single in the bottom of the third inning. Kyler Mitchell tallied the RBI - also in the third inning - with a bases-loaded walk that brought home Brady Glover.

The Dragons led just 1-0 after the first inning as Jones, who reached on an error, scored on a wild pitch.

In the second inning, the Dragons earned their second run on a bases-loaded walk by Chuy Alvarado, which scored Cameron Horton. With the bases still loaded, Newton followed with a three-RBI triple to right-center field, which brought home Jones, Greenhaw and Alvarado.

Leading 6-0, the Dragons were the recipient of an inside-the-park grand slam from Massey as his drive landed just on the right field chalk. Massey, Fuqua, Horton and Matthew Hill all scored on the play.

In the third, Newton began another onslaught of runs with a one-out RBI single that plated Greenhaw. An error on the play allowed Newton to round the bases and make the score 12-0.

Massey then added an RBI on a bases-loaded walk that plated Taylor McDonald and Jones’ RBI infield single scored Fuqua. Greenhaw added a two-RBI single, another run scored on an error and Newton capped the scoring with an RBI double.
