SAN ANGELO – Sparked by a 21-3 scoring edge in third period, the Brownwood Lady Lions ended their two-game losing streak with a 53-25 thrashing of Class 4A San Angelo Lake View Friday night.
The Lady Lions (9-6) – who surpassed last season’s win total with the victory – allowed just 11 points the entire second half, and a mere 15 points over the last three periods after giving up 10 in the first quarter.
“The defense played great and is back to where we need it,” said Lady Lions first-year head coach Heather Hohertz. “We wanted to finish strong before the break.”
Trinity Ansons led the Lady Lions with 13 points, four rebounds and four steals, while Sara Byrd chipped in a near triple-double of 10 points, 10 boards and seven assists.
Hannah Mask added nine points and four steals, Kelsey Gober scored six points and Mallorie Maxwell tallied five points and four rebounds. Amanda Gober contributed four points, five rebounds and three steals, while Patricia Wilson scored four points and Tiara Brown added two.
As a team, the Lady Lions collected 17 offensive rebounds.
The Lady Lions will resume play Dec. 28 when they take part in the three-day Gatesville tournament.
