The Brownwood Wild Thangz remained undefeated in TTAS District 2 Freshman Girls tournament action, racking up a 12-4 victory over the Comanche Longhorns Wednesday at the Camp Bowie Sports Complex.

With the win, the Wild Thangz earned a date with the Comanche Lady Aggies today at 4 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to Friday’s 6 p.m. championship game and clinch one of two state berths from District 2.

Brownwood struck for three runs in the top of the first inning and was never threatened. An illegal pitch and an error resulted in the first three Wild Thangz runs.

Comanche cut the deficit to 3-1 in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI ground out by Kendra Gillam that scored Rachel Ripley.

The Wild Thangz answered with another three-spot in the top of the third to boost their lead to 6-1.

Mercedes Hinze’s RBI triple brought home Heather Mobley, who led off with a single, with the first run of the inning. Laketta Vaccaro followed with an RBI base hit to plate Hinze, then Vaccaro scored on a passed ball during Alyson Finnigan’s at-bat.

The Wild Thangz increased their advantage to 8-1 in the fourth inning as Hinze — who finished with a team-high three hits and three RBIs — drove home Emma Mullins and Mobley with a two-RBI single to right field.

Brownwood tacked on four more runs in its final at-bat as the lead grew to 12-1.

Mullins singled home Cassidy Adams, who walked, then Paxton Vaughn, who reached on an infield single, raced home on a passed ball during Mobley’s at-bat. Mobley completed the scoring with a two-run home run to right-center field that scored herself and Mullins.

In the circle, Mullins recorded six strikeouts and shook off eight walks by stranding eight Longhorn base runners.

Comanche, which will play the Brownwood Crushers — 23-3 winners over the Ballinger Red Hot Maniacs — in a 4 p.m. elimination game today, tallied three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Madelyn Garcia, Ripley and Gillam each scored an unearned run.
