EARLY — The Early Longhorns remained tied for second place in the District 6-2A standings following Tuesday’s 67-38 win over the Grape Creek Eagles.

The Longhorns (12-4, 6-2) trail only seventh-ranked Jim Ned (24-2, 8-0) and are deadlocked with No. 17 Ballinger (20-4, 6-2) with six district contests remaining.

Eric Skaggs recorded a team-high 13 points for the Longhorns against Grape Creek, while Addison Ebarb and Clayton Skeen tallied 10 points each. Austin Cochran also added nine points for the Longhorns.

No. 17 Ballinger 68, Bangs 36

BALLINGER — The No. 17 Ballinger Bearcats dished out the second straight district loss for the Bangs Dragons, who fell in 6-2A action by a 68-36 score Tuesday night.

Bangs (14-9, 4-4) trailed 20-8 after one quarter, 39-15 at halftime and 56-23 heading into the final eight minutes.

Adrian Brown led the Dragons with 13 points, followed by 10 from Joey Lewis, four from Bradley Lee, three from Jason James and two points each from Dustin McClure and Ben Purcell.

Gustine 45, Zephyr 23

ZEPHYR — The struggles for the Zephyr Bulldogs continued with Tuesday night’s 45-23 District 16-A, Division II loss to Gustine.

Zephyr trailed 11-2 after one quarter, 24-7 at halftime and 34-14 through three periods.

GIRLS

Zephyr 44, Gustine 33

ZEPHYR — The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs continued their winning ways in District 16-A, Division II action with a 44-33 home victory over Gustine Tuesday.

The Lady Bulldogs erased a 21-17 halftime deficit by allowing just six points each in the third and fourth periods. Zephyr tied the game at 27-all after three quarters and outscored Gustine 17-6 in the fourth.

Joade Harris chalked up 20 points for Zephyr, followed by 10 from Callye Russell, nine from Ciera Culpepper and two points apiece from Tamara Spearman and Shelby Creed.

Santa Anna 51,

Brookesmith 49 (OT)

SANTA ANNA — Brookesmith’s Lady Mustangs let a seven-point fourth-quarter lead slip through their fingertips as the Santa Anna Lady Mountaineers rallied for a 51-49 overtime win in District 15-A, Division II action Tuesday night.

Brookesmith (19-7, 4-2) led 27-20 at halftime and 35-28 going into the fourth quarter, but Santa Anna (18-6, 6-2) outscored the Lady Mustangs 21-14 in the final period, then posted the only two points of the overtime session.

Kiana Crawford scored 19 points to pace the Lady Mustangs, followed by 11 points from Jennifer Hegardt, 10 from Amber Foster and nine from Stephanie Goerdel.

No. 18 Ballinger 57, Bangs 24

BALLINGER — The Bangs Lady Dragons suffered their fourth straight District 6-2A loss and ninth in 10 league games as No. 18 Ballinger rolled to a 57-24 win Tuesday night.

Bangs (1-9 in district) was down 21-8 after one quarter, trailed 34-13 at halftime and faced a 43-20 deficit starting the fourth quarter.

Taylor Beck scored a team-high seven points for the Lady Dragons, followed by six from Krista Mainka, four from Shiloh Morris and three from Anna Hall.
