STEPHENVILLE — The two-game win streak of the Brownwood Lions was halted by Stephenville, 68-44, Tuesday night.

Brownwood (2-4) received a team-high 13 points from Michael Ballejo, while Graylon Brown finished with 12 points.

The Lions will be back in action at 4 p.m. Thursday against Colorado City in the Clyde tournament.


Bangs 68,

No. 17 Jim Ned 65 (OT)

BANGS — The Bangs Lady Dragons upped their record to 12-4 with Tuesday’s 68-65 overtime home victory over No. 17 Jim Ned.

Bangs led 17-12 after one quarter, 27-26 at halftime and 40-37 through three quarters before Jim Ned drew even at 60-all at the end of regulation.

Hillary Evans scored 31 points to pace the Lady Dragons, trailed by 13 from Danielle Denbow, 11 from Keirstin Williams, eight from Chelsy Lipsey, three from Nette Evers and two points from Abby Hall.

The Lady Dragons will return to action at 8 a.m. Thursday against Haskell in the Albany tournament.

Santa Anna 63, Blanket 33

SANTA ANNA — The Santa Anna Lady Mountaineers improved to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in District 16-A, Division II action with Tuesday’s 63-33 win over Blanket.

Santa Anna led 11-8 after one quarter, 22-18 at halftime and 32-25 after three quarters.

Sarah Herrod led Santa Anna with 13 points followed by Heather McMillan with 10.

Blanket (5-6, 1-1) received 11 points from Candace Bundick, nine from Ashley Valle, five each from Charity Ferguson and Orlanda Lopez, two points from Ashley Barrow and one point from Danie Casarez.

Santa Anna 21

SANTA ANNA — The Blanket Tigers cruised to a 54-21 win over the Santa Anna Mountaineers in District 16-A, Division II basketball action Tuesday night.

Blanket led 15-2 after one quarter, 31-9 at halftime and 41-11 heading into the fourth period.

Austin Hughes led Blanket with 16 points, while Joseph Meeks also finished in double figures with 10 points. Also scoring were Cameron Prater and Tanner Downes with eight points each, Braxton Gonzalez with six and Corey Wetzel, Conner Wetzel and Jaron Prater with two points each.

No. 18 Rising Star 73,

Zephyr 42

RISING STAR — The No. 18 Rising Star Wildcats improved to 8-3 with a 73-42 victory over Zephyr in the District 16-A, Division II opener.

Raymond Sutton scored 27 for the Wildcats, trailed by Aron Wilson, Brett Helmuth and Kenneth Simmons with 11 points apiece. Alec Apple added six points, Tim Butcher tallied five and Colton Hill finished with four points.

Zephyr (2-4, 0-1) received 12 points from Dakota Ellis and 11 points from Haustin Simmons.

Rising Star led 17-2 after one quarter, 32-15 at halftime and 47-34 through three quarters.
