Austin St. Stephens 61, Lions 55

BURNET — The Brownwood Lions witnessed a four-point fourth-quarter lead evaporate as Austin St. Stephens rallied for a 61-55 victory in the championship game of the Burnet Bulldog Classic Saturday.

“It’s good this was only the seventh game and not the 17th,” said Lions head coach Shane Perkins. “We just got tired and didn’t have enough energy. We don’t have the conditioning to play four quarters like that yet, but that’s why you play these kids of games early.”

Kevin Cunningham led the Lions with 12 points, followed by 11 from all-tournament team member Parker Taylor. Rashad Deal and Kenny Vaccaro added 10 points apiece, while all-tournament selection Mike Thompson chipped in eight points. Russell Foy also contributed four points.

The Lions (5-2) will visit Stephenville at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
