Lions JV soccer team places sixth at Cove tourney

The Brownwood Lions JV soccer team posted a 1-3-1 record in five games to finish sixth at the Copperas Cove Bulldawg Classic tournament this past weekend.

Brownwood lost its first two games, 3-0 to Midway and 2-0 to Killeen Ellison, before beating Marble Falls, 3-0. The Lions then lost to Waco, 3-0, before tying Ellison in a rematch, 1-1.

Danny Hogue scored three goals for the Lions and Cameron Chisholm added one. Luis Vallencio tallied two assists while one apiece came from Chisholm and E.J. Davila.

Top defensive performances were turned in by Anthony Delgado, Luis Chapa, Jesse Coppic, Michael Gonzales and goalie Jacob Bond.

Lady Horns JV basketball posts two wins at tournament

The Early Lady Horns JV defeated Bangs, 48-15, and Grape Creek, 50-25, at the District 6-2A JV basketball tournament in Ballinger Saturday.

In the win over Bangs, Angela Sanderson scored 16 points, followed by nine from Julia Loudermilk, seven from Taylor Penn, four points each from Kayla Dickerson and Brittany Braun, three points each from Sarah Russell and Ashley Williams and two points from Janna Allen.

Against Grape Creek, Braun finished with 15 points, Russell had 11, Sanderson had 10, Allen had six, Loudermilk had four, Penn had three and Williams recorded two points.
