Mr. and Mrs. Lane celebrating 58 years together

Hal and Margaret Lane were married March 3, 1956, and will be celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary on Sunday, March 3, 2014.

Margaret was born and raised in Gary, Ind. After high school she worked as a stenographer for the Prudential Insurance Company.

Hal graduated from Richland Springs High School and North Texas University. Both joined the U.S. Air Force and were stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Ill., where they were both instructors in the Weather Observer School.

They were married in a base chapel and after their enlistments were completed, they moved to Denton, Texas, where Hal began teaching mathematics and science at Denton High School.

In 1960, they moved to Brownwood where Hal began a 36 year tenure at Howard Payne University as a mathematics teacher. Margaret graduated from HPU and began teaching at Woodland Heights Elementary as a sixth grade teacher and three years later as a fifth grade teacher until her retirement.

To keep busy, Margaret has a great passion for crossword puzzles, crocheting, tatting, and sewing. Hal still farms and ranches the family homestead in San Saba County.

The couple have three children, Linda Lane of Brownwood, Hal Burns and wife Cindy of San Antonio and Robert and wife Lenora of Brownwood; two grandchildren, Kimberly Koepp and William Koepp; and two great-grandchildren, Branson Koepp-Cox and Kristofer Koepp.
