Crime report: Man stabbed

Two days after being released from jail on an allegation that he stabbed someone, Jerry Leonard became a stabbing victim.

Leonard, 31, of Brownwood, rushed into surgery at Brownwood Regional Medical Center after being stabbed in the neck and abdomen Friday night, and another Brownwood man was arrested in connection with the stabbing, Brownwood police said.

Rollie Lopez, 33, was booked into the Brown County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance, jail records state.

Brownwood police arrested Leonard on Feb. 26 on an allegation that he stabbed a woman in the arm following an altercation. The stabbing happened in a parking lot outside the apartments in the 1700 block of Third, police said earlier.

Leonard was released from jail on June 11, jail records show.

According to a police report:

A woman told police she and her boyfriend had gone to a residence in the 900 block of Seventh Friday night because she needed to give an insurance card to a woman who lived there. They were sitting in a vehicle when another man came up to the truck, talked with Leonard and got in the back seat.

Leonard and the other man got out and were talking "just fine," but then they began fighting and Leonard was stabbed, the report states. The woman drove Leonard to the hospital, and police located the suspect at a home in the 1500 block of Durham.
