Welcome reception Thursday for Chamber’s new membership director
Ruth Willis had always commended the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce and what its association has rendered to the city.
“I’ve always admired them by what a terrific employer they’ve been,” Willis said. “Now it’s time for me to see what I’m capable of to (maintain that).”
From 3:30 – 5 p.m. Thursday, the Chamber of Commerce will host a welcome reception for Willis, who has been added to the staff’s roster as the new membership director.
“I’ve been really excited about being in this opportunity. It gives me a new perspective, a new approach to this business, and it is something that I’ve been comfortable with,” said Willis, whose first day on the job was Monday.
Willis’ job entails managing the development and production of products and services created for members, as well as supporting business interests of more than 500 owners, managers, developers and area related suppliers who own, manage and provide products and services.
She is the successor of Missi Malone, who resigned last month and accepted a similar position at Apartment Association of Tarrant County in Fort Worth.
“I plan to bring workshops and training that will help members out and things that (positively) affect business management,” Willis said.
Willis worked as an assistant to the city manager and project manager with Brownwood Economic Development Corporation as project administrator for five years. With her involvement with several civic organizations, she also serves as the president of Mid-Tex Human Resources and Brown County United Way.
Born in Corpus Christi but raised in San Antonio, Willis graduated with a degree in business administration from Howard Payne University.
