No plans yet for the weekend? Well here's one thing you won't want to miss - the Ray Johnston Band will be pulling into Brownwood this weekend to open for Jon Wolfe and is planning to rock the stage at Waylon and Ray's Place.

The up-and-coming Texas band is looking to plant some roots in the Brownwood area as they continue to make their rhythms and lyrics known throughout the state.

"The way I describe our music is just 'happy country'," said Johnston. "It's the kind of music where the girl stays with the guy in the end. I like to perform, write and play that kind of music."

The band is also no stranger to Brownwood. KOXE has been an avid player of many of the band's singles and their excited about visiting the area again.

"I've really only visited the KOXE station when I've visited Brownwood," Johnston said. "I haven't played a live show there before, but anytime I play somewhere for the first time it's certainly nice to be invited."

Even though Brownwood isn't known for being the biggest Texas music scene in the state, the band says that doesn't bother them and they expect to still put on a great show for the crowd.

"We really don't even think about it when we play a show," Johnston said. "Whether it's the metroplex or a smaller city like Brownwood, we just want to play somewhere where the crowd is into the music and is having a good time. It's great to see the fans singing along with the music and we also love making friends with people on the road."

If you're still on the fence on whether or not to slap on the boots and jeans, Johnston mentioned a few words of encouragement.

"We want you to come out to the show if you want to listen to do some great music and have a great time," he said. "If you haven't heard us before than you'll get a chance to listen to an up-and-coming band in the Texas music scene."

The Ray Johnston Band will play Saturday night at Waylon and Ray's Place and are the opening act for Texas music artist Jon Wolfe. Tickets are $10 or $20 for entry and a copy of Wolfe's new CD "Natural Man".
