Nine constrictor snakes taken in pet store burglary
“If anyone has information on the missing snakes, please contact the police department.”
That’s Assistant Brownwood Police Chief James Fuller’s message to the public following the theft of nine constrictor snakes — eight pythons and one boa constrictor — from the the Fish Bowl Pet Store, 1015 N. Fisk in Brownwood.
Someone broke into the business Sunday night, police said Thursday. No arrests have been made but detectives are working several leads, Fuller said.
In addition to the nine snakes, three bunnies, 20 feeder mice and equipment including two tanks and 20 hopper feeders were taken, police said. The loss totaled $3,203.
Electronics and cash were left behind.
One of the business owners told police he’d been at the business around 9:30 p.m. Sunday. When he arrived at the store at 9:30 a.m. Monday, he saw that the side door was open and the frame was broken, police said.
The business owner told police about man who’d been in the store a few days before the break-in. The man talked about his prior thefts from area businesses and was very interested in the snakes during his visit, police said.
