BISD’s Young wins big honor in region
Brownwood ISD Superintendent Dr. Joe Young has been named the Education Service Center Region 15 Superintendent of the Year, the district announced in a press release.
There are 20 regions in Texas, and Region 15 serves more than 40 schools in West Central Texas. The Region 15 honor places Young in the running for the State Superintendent of the Year Award, which is announced in the fall.
“Brownwood ISD is filled with fantastic students led and supported by an outstanding staff,” Young said. “It is my extreme honor to be a part of this community and district. During the Superintendent of the Year interview process, it was easy to share the incredibly impactful work we are doing here. Credit for this work is deserved by our entire district.
“I am humbled to lead this district, and I want to thank everyone who supports our kids daily, including our parents and community partners. All the people who support me are the reason we get these types of recognition.”
Young was nominated earlier this year by the BISD Board of Trustees and later completed an interview process with the Education Service Center (ESC).
“On behalf of the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees, we are thrilled and proud that Dr. Joe Young has been chosen as the Superintendent of the Year for the ESC Region 15 area,” BISD board president Michael Cloy said.
“Dr. Young is the perfect example of a man who is regarded as having the utmost integrity, one who demonstrates compassion to others, as well as exhibiting a strong commitment to his profession — an educator. Consistent praise from teachers, parents, and students are extremely encouraging for the Board of Trustees and further our confidence in him as our leader.”
Cloy said Young’s leadership style “is strong, yet unassuming, and he is quick to credit those with whom he is affiliated and recognize the assets and talents of all team members within Brownwood ISD.”
Young’s leadership abilities are also well-known and sought after by area, regional, and even state entities, Cloy said.
“Dr. Young has immersed himself, as well as endeared himself, to our district and our community,” Cloy said. “We can think of no one better to lead our district into the future, as uncertain as it may be, than Dr. Joe Young.”
The Education Service Center Region 15 released the following statement announcing the honor:
“Education Service Center Region 15 would like to congratulate the 2020 TASB Region 15 Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Joe Young of Brownwood ISD. We are excited about the work Dr. Young is doing with students, educators, parents, and the community of Brownwood. We are proud to have him represent our region.”
Liesa Land, deputy superintenent of the Brownwood school district, said Young is very deserving of the honor.
“He is not only a great leader in our district but in our community, in our region and even in our state where he serves on various committees,” Land said. “He has done an amazing job of leading us through unchartered waters during COVID-19. He is one of the main reasons BISD is the District of Choice. I am blessed to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing leader.”
