SHAMROCK SHORES — A grass fire Friday evening at Shamrock Stores burned about 8 acres, jumping streets, burning between houses and prompting the evacuation of four to five families.

The main fire caused several spot fires, Lake Brownwood Fire Chief Randy Feight said.

Fire departments began getting dispatched around 6 p.m., and firefighters from multiple fire departments got control of the fires around 2 a.m.

A shed and a couple of junk vehicles were lost, Feight said.

The fires threatened but did not burn 10 to 12 houses, and firefighters saved five houses, Feight said.

Eight had no information on what might have caused the fire. She said the sheriff’s office is investigating.

Every fire department in the county had a truck at the fire, Feight said.

“When you’re talking about a housing development, eight acres is a big deal,” Feight said.
