Brownwood native Terry Beck, Brownwood High School 1967, returns home April 4-6, to promote his new book, A Gathering of Words - A Train of Thought. His tales of life working on the railroad are gaining popularity around the country, and the book is now in its second printing.

Terry will be signing books at multiple locations over the three days, so his friends and former colleagues can catch up with him at their convenience. He is particularly pleased to be spending the weekend at Martin and Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum celebrating the First Annual Heart Of Texas Railroad Festival.

About the book: When he signed on with the railroad in 1971, college boy Terry Beck wasn’t looking for anything beyond a summer job. Instead, he found his place in a time-honored lineage of railroaders that some think may have been the last of a disappearing breed. Once he figured out he needed to buy a bag and keep it packed, his adventures began and continued nearly 40 years.

A Gathering of Words - A Train of Thought captures memories of an earlier time on the glorious Santa Fe Railroad. Besides his own exploits and lessons, the book is filled with recollections of some of the rich and colorful characters he encountered, including tributes to beloved mentors and colleagues. Additionally, Terry Beck recounts memorable stories that have been handed down by the people he worked with, some of which might even be true!

With the railroad having been a major employer in so many cities and towns for decades, there remains a strong camaraderie amongst railroaders and their families throughout Texas and the entire country. A Gathering of Words - A Train of Thought will bring warm memories, smiles, laughter and even a tear or two as readers travel the rails with Terry.

About the author: Retired railroader and veteran storyteller Terry Beck hails from Brownwood and has spent a whole lotta years being fascinated by the day-to-day activities and experiences that life brings our way. He lives with Amber, his wife of 37 years, in Burleson, Texas, and fits in his storytelling and writing around doting on her, their daughters Shanon and Shaye, and some mighty cute grandkids, Cole, Emily and Abbie. It’s a good life. He is currently working on his next book in the Gathering of Words series, I've been thinking, which is due for publication Summer 2014.
