Early school board could name lone finalist for superintendent's job Tuesday night
EARLY — Early school board members could name the lone finalist for the superintendent's job Tuesday night. Board members could also name the school district's new band director.
Board members will interview three candidates for the superintendent's job in a specially called meeting that begins at 5 p.m., Interim Superintendent Larry Taylor said, and it is hoped that the board will name the lone finalist.
According to state law, the board must wait 21 days before formally offering the finalist the job, Taylor said. The 21 days would be up on July 1.
Taylor said the board interviewed seven candidates before narrowing the field to three.
The new superintendent will replace Brett Koch, who announced his resignation in October. Koch and school board president Shawn Russell said then that it was "time for a change."
Koch's last day on the job was Jan. 31. Koch said then that he was preparing to begin working as the interim principal at the middle school in Marble Falls.
Early High School principal Jennifer Kent said she expects to make a recommendation to the school board Tuesday night for the hiring of a new band director to replace Jason Jones.
Jones resigned to take the band director's job in Burnet.
Jones has helped in the selection and interview process of his successor, Kent said. She did not name the person she plans to recommend but said the person currently works in Texas.
