Brownwood man charged with continued sexual abuse of child

A Brownwood man remained jailed Friday following his arrest Thursday on a charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child, with bond set at $100,000.

Sheriff's investigator Scott Bird served an arrest warrant on the suspect, Christopher Cornett, 33.

Cornett is accused of sexual assaulting a girl under the age of 14 two or more times during a seven-month period in 2013, according to a complaint sheriff's investigator Nathan Land filed in Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Jim Cavanaugh's court.

In other incidents:

• Brownwood police were dispatched early Friday morning to the 1500 block of Terrace on a disturbance call. Police arrested Seaver Roper Jr., 24, on a terroristic threat charge.

• Police were dispatched Thursday to the 2800 block of Southside on a domestic disturbance call. Police arrested Timothy Collins, 22, of Brownwood, on an assault charge.

• Police took a report Wednesday on a report of a check fraud in which several businesses were victimized.

• Police were dispatched Thursday to the 400 block of Main on a disturbance call and arrested Juan Sanchez, 19, of Brownwood, on an assault charge.

• Police were dispatched Thursday to Walmart on a report of a shoplifting. The suspect ran and was last seen behind the Holiday Inn Express. Police located the suspect and arrested Skylour Admire, 18, of Brownwood, on a theft charge.

Others booked into the Brown County Jail between 8 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday were:  

Stephanie Baker, 29, Blanket, parole violation.

Barbara Blackburn, 28, Brownwood, possession of a controlled substance.

Christine Quigley, 27, Brownwood, theft.

Juan Sanchez, 19, Brownwood, assault.
