Supporters of the Boys and Girls Club of Brown County are gearing up for their annual Barn Dance fundraiser event, scheduled for May 3 at Sorrel Canyon Ranch.

The 2014 event features entertainment from The Bellamy Brothers, and Kelley Spinks and the Miles of Texas Band.

This year's pre-event raffle ticket sale is for a 2001 H1 Hummer. This vehicle is the beast produced for the commercial market, because of the demand following its initial introduction to military service in the late 1980s. It has a 6.5L Turbo Diesel, four-wheel drive, and only 70,140 miles.

As of Saturday morning, only about 50 tickets remained of the 200 to be sold. Each ticket is $250, but the limited number greatly increases the odds of holding the winning ticket, when the drawing is held.

Raffle tickets are available online at the Boys and Girls Club website, www.bgcbrownwood.org, or contact Sherry at First Travel Service at (325)646-0523.

Tickets for the Barn Dance are also available on the website.

The funds raised in this and other events throughout the year help the Boys and Girls Club provide a safe location for K-12 students to gather after school, during holidays, and throughout the summer. They provide many activities, such as a computer lab, tutoring, game room, art classes, a gardening program, mentoring, as well as snacks and meals, all under close supervision, for an average of 200 students.

The community's financial support allowed for several improvement projects, over the past year, to the facility, including new restrooms, drinking water fountains, emergency exit doors, and the remodeling of the gymnasium. Daniel Willingham, the executive director of the club, has many more plans for future improvement projects.
