Overnight accident results in deaths of BHS senior, Zephyr grad

Bulletin Staff Report

Few details were available following a traffic accident early Sunday that resulted in the deaths of Brownwood High School senior Billy Jones and 2013 Zephyr graduate Bolton Day.

Jones, who was also a member of the Lions baseball team, died at the scene and Day succumbed to injuries caused by the wreck after being transported to a San Angelo hospital. A third person was also in the vehicle and sustained no life-threatening injuries.

Information on the accident, which occurred overnight between Ballinger and Talpa on U.S. Highway 67, has yet to be released by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Brownwood school board president Michael Cloy confirmed the death of Jones to the Bulletin, while the Facebook page of Day confirmed his passing in a post by his brother.

Cloy said he received an email from Superintendent Reece Blincoe Sunday morning stating that Jones had been killed in the accident.

“We’re all in shock,” Cloy said. “Many students are hurt and saddened by this.”

Additional information will appear in the Tuesday edition of the Bulletin.
