Prior to 2007, the City of Brownwood had both a City Manager and an Assistant, but that second had not been filled since Bobby Rountree was appointed to the chief administrator's position in late 2007.

Monday, the City Council unanimously approved filling the assistant's position.

Asking to reestablish the job title, Rountree also recommended Emily Crawford, the Executive Director of the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation.

"Some people have ten years of experience in one year, while others have one year's experience ten times over," Rountree said, lauding Crawford, "I consider Emily as one of those who has ten years of experience in one year."

Rountree noted her ability to learn quickly and "excel in her work, professionalism, integrity, and her ability to work with a broad spectrum of people."

Rountree said Crawford has, in her three years as BEDC Director, worked closely with the other department heads, City Council, BEDC Board members, citizens, and numerous developers.

Crawford graduated valedictorian from San Saba High School and Summa Sum Laude from Southwest Texas State University, in 2000, with a degree in Public Health.

Rountree noted her "proven track record of success," having worked for the Texas Recreational Vehicle Association in Austin, the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, the Brownwood ISD, prior to her current position.

Crawford will continue to serve as the head of the BEDC and will assume her additional duties, Wednesday. Among those are the direct supervision of the airport and health department.

"This is a great opportunity to expand my knowledge base and experience," Crawford, "I look forward to getting to work."

Crawford and her husband, Scotty, have two sons. Tim attends Brownwood Middle School and Seth, East Elementary.
