TXDoT projects update
Earlier in the week, the Texas Department of Transportation issued a traffic advisory for Austin Ave., a state maintained road also designated FM 2524.
Construction on FM 2524 (Austin Avenue) is ramping up this week. Work crews are currently placing warning signs and traffic control devices as they begin work on storm drains and utilities. No lane closures are planned at this time, but drivers should be cautious of workers and equipment in the area. Drivers can expect to see a traffic shift during the summer.
The project will completely rehabilitate Austin Avenue from Norwood Street to Brooks Avenue by widening it to four lanes, as well as rebuilding and resurfacing the roadway and widening the bridge at Willis Creek. The project also includes storm drains, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and signals.
Elsewhere, in Brownwood, the extension of Marketplace Blvd. to U.S. Highway 67/84, near the entrance to Riverside Park, is expected to be complete this summer. Darah Waldrip, the public information officer for TXDoT Abilene/Brownwood, explained the paving requires consistently warm temperatures. That road will include single lanes in each direction, a center turn lane, and signal lights at the highway.
In Early, the widening of U.S. Highway 84/183 is nearing completion. The final paving, like that on Marketplace, requires cooperative weather. The project included the addition of a center lane from the signal light at the U.S. 377 intersection to the FM 2126 intersection, as well as new curbs, sidewalks, and drainage improvements.
