At disturbance call, Brownwood officer stops glass coffee table top from falling on girl

A Brownwood police officer grabbed a glass coffee table top and stopped it from falling on a 4-year-old girl after the girl's agitated mother tried to grab the child away from a relative. The relative was trying to comfort the crying child, police said. 

The mother's "reckless and violent action" had resulted in the mother knocking the glass top off the coffee table, a police report about the Friday night incident in the 1700 block of 13th states.

Police arrested the mother, identified as Patricia Garcia, 23. Garcia was booked into the Brown County Jail on a charge of child endangerment, jail records state.

The incident was one of several involving assaults or altercations, recently released police reports state.

Brownwood police were dispatched Saturday night to the 2200 block of Fourth after a man called 9-1-1 and said he was assaulted by several people. The man told police he was planning to record narcotics activities of people in a home when he was hit in the mouth. A witness told police he saw a group of people arguing and then saw the man get hit, and the others fled.

The man had a broken leg, and it was not clear if the leg fracture was caused when the man fell following being hit. Guardian EMS took the man to Brownwood Regional Medical Center.
