LETTERS

Thank you letter

the 2014 Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit Committee, Ruth Wheelis, Chair, 2014 Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit

The 2014 Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit Committee would like to thank our sponsors of the Sixteenth Annual Stars of Texas Exhibit, including the City of Brownwood and our parent organization, The Arts Council of Brownwood. The underwriting sponsors, who helped us pay our considerable expenses were Barr Fabrication, Margaret and Stuart Coleman, the family of Anis and RT Allen, and the Ima Gem Queen estate. The award sponsors, whose funds helped us attract fine artists from across the state were: Jane Ellen Jamar, Dr. Stan Cavett and TSO, Betty Martin, the family of Mary Cadenhead, Charles and Kay Beth Stavley, Kohler Company, Marcia Elling, J. Hite Homes, Marla Stanley, Big Country Ford Lincoln, and Stanley Dodge of Brownwood. These sponsors provided the monetary support for the various awards, which attracted 126 artists from all across the state.

Over 2,000 attendees, many from out-of-town, were attracted to the two-week free exhibit of 144 works of art and art demonstrations, due to the publicity and support provided by the Brownwood Bulletin, Brownwoodnews.com, Lamar Advertising, Wendlee Broadcasting, and KBWD/KOXE. Thom Hanrahan and Kevin Holamon at the Brownwood Bulletin and Ray and Lisa Tipton at Brownwoodnews.com were particularly instrumental in promoting the two-week show, with daily updates of demonstrators, the fine articles, and the wonderful photos.

We would also like to give a big thank-you to the area schools, including Howard Payne University, the public schools of Brownwood, Mullin, Priddy, Early, Star, May, and Comanche, Cross Classical Academy, and Victory Life Academy, who brought more than 1,000 students to the exhibit.

This exhibit would not be possible without the outpouring of public support from both civic groups and individuals. Specifically, we would like to thank the Woman’s Club of Brownwood, The Brownwood Art Association, the Tuesday Country Club Bridge Group, the Brownwood Mah Jongg Club and, and individuals from the community who served as greeters and hosts during the event. They were both gracious and helpful to the visitors to the show, and we appreciate their enthusiastic support.

We would also like to thank our patrons who purchased art during the event, since 25% of their purchase price is retained by the Art Council of Brownwood to help defray the cost of the show. Others, such as Southwest Appliance, Common Grounds, and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, supported the show through services and in-kind donations, and many visitors to the show gave daily monetary donations.

Of course, we could not have had a show without the artists who came from all over Texas to submit 257 works to be judged and those who returned to demonstrate their art during the show. Since many of the artists are from Brownwood and the surrounding area, we want to say "Thank you" for sharing your talent with us. Our judge, Benito Huerta, was overwhelmed by the outstanding quality of the art entered in this particular show.

There may be an entire year between exhibits, but thanks to so many, what a wonderful city-wide team effort it is! Maybe this is one reason that Brownwood “feels like home” to our visitors from across the state!

From the 2014 Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit Committee
