Class 5A Abilene High shuts down Lady Lions softball, 2-0

Danyelle Gongora was one of only two Lady Lions to collect hits in Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Class 5A Abilene High.

ABILENE — In their bid to earn back-to-back victories over Class 5A Abilene programs, the Brownwood Lady Lions’ offense ran out of steam in a 2-0 loss to the Abilene High Lady Eagles Saturday afternoon.

Coming off a 9-4 home win over Abilene Cooper Friday night, the Lady Lions (6-2) were limited to only two hits by Abilene High hurler Victoria Bryant, who struck out seven.

Collecting the hits for Brownwood were Danyelle Gongora and Shelbi Winstead.

Abilene High scored one run each in the bottom of the first and second innings against Lady Lion pitcher Ashley Gomez, who allowed four hits, struck out three and walked three.

Christa Garcia and Amanda Aguilar both singled and drove in a run for Abilene High (5-6), while Bryant and Samantha Rodriguez added hits as well.

The Lady Lions will host Abilene Wylie at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
